High energy density lithium batteries with liquid and solid electrolytes

Increasing energy density of rechargeable batteries is highly desired by many emerging applications. It is necessary to identify possible solutions for achieving both high energy density and other required performances. Based on personal knowledge and understandings, this report summarizes the main scientific and technological problems and possible solutions of high energy density lithium ion batteries and solid lithium batteries. CAS efforts on developing high energy density lithium batteries will be introduced.
Hong Li is a professor in Institute of Physics, CAS. His research directions include high energy density lithium ion batteries using Si-based anode, batteries with mixed solid/liquid electrolytes and all solid electrolyte, failure analysis on various types of lithium batteries. He has published 270 peer-reviewed papers with a H-factor of 61. He has filed over 80 patents and forty patents have been granted. He has initiated two companies and two research centers. He serves as the regional editor of Solid State Ionics and scientific committee member of MOST and MIIT in China.
